Dishes & Glasses: Be mindful when packing dishes and glasses. It’s important to wrap individual plates and glasses with packing tissue and separate them with sheets of buddle to cushion them. Fill the remainder of the box carton with crumpled packing paper to avoid shifting in transport. And remember to you’re your boxes under 30 pounds for easy handling. Especially with fragile items.
Books: Books can get really heavy when packing them. Use smaller cartons or boxes when packing them to avoid this. And remember the under 30 lb. rule for easy lifting and carrying. Line your book boxes with garbage bag liners to keep them cleaner and any empty spaces with packing paper or bubble wrap to avoid shifting while carrying.
Lamps: It’s best to pack lamp shades in individual boxes with plenty of paper for padding to avoid crushing. You can use pillows inside and out to assist in preventing this. Lamp bases can be packed securely in dresser drawers, washing machines or freezers and further padded with blankets, towels or pillows for safety. Remember to tell your movers these items are inside appliances.
Mirrors and Paintings: Wrap your mirrors and paintings in bubble wrap and clearly label them as fragile or containing glass. In transport or storage make sure to stand them on edge. Never transport or store a mirror or painting laying flat.

BEST USE OF YOUR STORAGE SPACE
The following tips will help you make the best use of your space and insure safe and secure storage for your belongings:
1. Rent the smallest amount of space you need and pack the unit full.
2. A box for everything and everything in a box is the best protection for your goods. Use uniform sizes of boxes and stack them shoulder high to maximize your total unit space.
3. Prepare your unit by placing plastic on the floor under your goods. Make sure the plastic laps up over the walls a few inches on every side. Pallets might also be available.
4. Leave a small air space between the goods stored and the unit walls.
5. Store lightweight items around the back of the unit. Move large, heavy items into storage last. Do not place heavy or sharp objects on top of upholstered furniture.
6. Protect your mattress, sofas, and chairs by covering them.
7. Use a good quality lock on your unit door.
8. Insure your goods while in storage. Ask the manager about self storage insurance. We cannot be responsible for loss from fire or theft.
9. Keep a list of all items put into storage as well as pictures and descriptions. |
